Monday - one of those days where nothing seems to go right. I had to leave work early to pick up my kid and deliver him to a band event (we are band nerds). After I dropped him off, I sat in the parking lot waiting for him to finish his audition and began to noticed a clicking noise which I ignored. As it continued I realized it was coming from my car - I left the lights on and my battery was dead (there's a whole different object lesson there).
I have been known to do this in the past so I did not panic but simply called my husband to come bail me out. As I waited for him to arrive I wondered how he would get to the battery as there were cars parked all around. Would you believe the car directly in front of me pulled out - I said a quick prayer of thanks and thought that finally something in this day was going right. Before my husband had time to get there, another car pulled in - just my luck.
So my husband finally pulls in and has to park two spots over from me. As I disentangle myself from the crafting supplies I had been using while passing the time, I worried about how we would move the car so we could jump the battery (forgot to mention the freezing rain). Within five minutes the car in front and one space to the right of mine pulled out. Again I said a quick prayer both of thanks and of apology for previous grumbling when that original open spot had been taken.
This seemingly skewed solution is how God often works in my life. Watching as Don wedged the Jeep sideways into that spot to the right (so the jumper cables would reach), I thought of how many times the most logical or straightforward or convenient solution is not God's way - sometimes His way lies just ahead but to the right.
